Each room draws inspiration from Stoughton’s rich cultural heritage and the Victorian character of our 1878 home. We’ve paired historic charm with contemporary comfort, creating spaces that feel both timeless and entirely present. The four rooms are modest in number by design, ensuring every guest receives the attention and care that defines a true boutique experience.
Quiet
Built for readers and thinkers, this room holds the weight of the house’s history. Bathed in sunny yellow, the Library faces quiet Washington Street, boasting a bright yet cozy atmosphere perfect for reading and relaxing – including a luxurious clawfoot tub right in the room, complete with a bamboo bath tray.

Luxurious
The largest of the inn’s accommodations, the Sanctuary Suite is wrapped in treetop views and natural light. A green sitting room surrounds the antique four poster king bed, while a fireplace feature adds warmth and atmosphere throughout the seasons. A separate lounge with a spa tub, writing desk, television, and convertible daybed offers extra space for romantic weekends, longer stays, or small families.

A Victorian house built in 1878, thoughtfully prepared for modern travelers.

Everything you need to know before you arrive at The Goose Crown Inn.
Yes! We are proud to have guests visit us in this National Historic Register home built by the Norwegian architect Jens Naeset in 1878. While we have updated the guest rooms and rebranded as The Goose Crown Inn, we pay loving tribute wherever possible to the history and tradition of the home.
We are not a traditional B&B in the sense that we don’t have serve an extensive sit-down breakfast at the property. Instead, we have partnered with Wildwood Café just a block away, to provide our guests a delicious home-baked pastry and artisan coffee every morning of their stay. Our aim is to reduce waste and encourage guests to mix in with Stoughton locals at one of our favorite spots in town.
Yes, there is ample street parking around the property, which sits on a corner lot. Parking in our neighborhood is free and without restrictions.
We have a question back to you: CAN you play the piano? If you can, then be our guests… respectfully. The piano is original to the house, and Gertrude Naeset once used it to provide lessons to the children of the neighborhood around downtown Stoughton.
The Goose Crown Inn is just two blocks north of Stoughton’s historic Main Street, with its whimsical shops, small concert and theater venues, and a growing restaurant scene. You can walk to anywhere in town, including the nearby Division Street Park on the Yahara River, within five minutes. If you prefer to drive, the downtown district has ample street parking, along with free public lots.
We are pleased to provide a completely self-serve check-in and check-out process. Once you book your stay, we will reach out via SMS text and email with instructions for accessing the property and your room with a code unique to your stay. We’ll also provide a detailed welcome guide to get you to your room and on to the attractions of Stoughton and greater Madison with ease.
Do you want it to be? In our experience, historic properties have loads of character. Whether it has any actual characters in it, beyond the hosts and guests, is often in the eye of the beholder. One thing we know: if there be ghosts here, they are all friendly – and probably just hanging around because they couldn’t get enough of this grand old house.
